In addition to buying power, the new company will be in a position to provide major advertising campaigns to support the individual stores. Ma and Pa tire stores do not have the resources to do that on their own. Capitalization and advertising are two of the most critical factors in determining success or failure of a business.

I seem to recall that Jack Arnold also made reference to the
