Tuesday December 23, 7:46 pm Eastern Time PSINet to hold special meeting on alliance HERNDON, Va., Dec 23 (Reuters) - PSINet Inc said it has filed to hold a special meeting of its shareholders on Jan. 23 to vote on a proposed alliance with a subsidiary of IXC Communications Inc (Nasdaq:_IIXC_ - _news_). If approved by shareholders, the deal is expected to close in early March. Under the agreement, IXC, a supplier of digital transmission and long-distance services in the United States, is to take a 20 percent stake in PSINet, an Internet service provider. In return, IXC is to provide PSINet 10,000 equivalent route miles on its nationwide fiber optic network for a 20-year term.
