TopCat,
So you are convinced the government has its act together with respect to vetting Muslim immigrants?
Of course not. Hence the reason why I would rather take the fight to the terrorists themselves.

We're never going to be Fortress America no matter how much Trump or Buchanan wants it. Even if we tried, we'll just end up destroying or corrupting the very foundations of our society just because we're spooked by anyone who dares to worship Allah.

Besides, with borders that extend for thousands and thousands of miles, along with thousands of illegal immigrants continuing to get smuggled in, how exactly are we going to stop them all from coming here? Not to mention how are we going to stop those already here from getting converted by militant ideology? Shut down the Internet like Trump wants? Get Silicon Valley to "write an app for that" like Hillary wants?

I'd rather we achieve victory over ISIS by destroying their geographic caliphate. That would represent both an ideological victory (thereby demoralizing potential converts) as well as a strategic one. Whether we stay and "nation-build" or not is something we can decide later. (I would prefer not to, of course, and just continue taking out these terrorists whenever they pop out of hiding like ISIS is doing right now.)

That's a lot easier than what Obama thinks, which is if we just give these people jobs and a hope for the future, they'll renounce extremism. Obviously that didn't work for the San Bernardino couple. And it's a lot better than banning all Muslims, which means vilifying the vast majority of them who don't believe in violent jihad and who are here for the same reasons the rest of us are.
