Someone suggested that the problem is jumping around too quickly from tab to tab and the scripts don't have time to catch up. I've tried slowing down and at the moment the problem seems to have stopped. I think also it depends heavily on the type of site visited and the extent to which they use advertising scripts. It it comes back I will try your insufficient memory solution. That sounded quite likely as I have had that warning a few times in the past. Thanks to all who responded.
