That little robot we call New Horizons , seeing Pluto for the first time close up in our lifetimes has to top the list of the scientific miracles this year.

Little engine that could, Japonese 'Ataksuki/New Dawn'
space.com

The Japonese probe of Venus missed orbit insertion when main engines failed to burn at critical time in 2010, but much to Japonese credit they've managed using tiny thrusters & 5yrs inching it back into Venusian orbit, quite a feat.

* Last thing Chinese want & dread is a Japan going nuclear, which they could do probably in 6mos. In these times one never knows. Their rocket delivery platforms would be dealy accurate, building weaponized warheads easy for them, they have plenty of high grade fissionable material from nuke energy programs . ( if they don't have them already)

Joseph Campbell unpacks Star Wars:

"Man should not be in the service of society, society should be in the service of man. When man is in the service of society, you have a monster state, and that's what is threatening the world at this minute... Certainly Star Wars has a valid mythological perspective. It shows the state as a machine and asks, "Is the machine going to crush humanity or serve humanity?" Humanity comes not from the machine but from the heart. What I see in Star Wars is the same problem that Faust gives us (with) Mephistopheles, the machine man... Now, when Luke Skywalker unmasks his father he is taking off the machine role that the father has played. The father was the uniform. That is power, the state role."

--Joseph Campbell

cute, Star Wars again smashes box office records, something very mythological going on.
