The Democratic party never repudiated the KKK. Byrd was held up as a statesman and he was a gutter racist to his last day. FDR wasn't a Kluxer himself but he liked appointing them to the Supreme Court and picking them as his Veep. JFK hated interracial marriage and banned Sammy Davis from the WH over his marriage to a white woman. LBJ blocked every civil rights bill Republicans put up until he was in the WH. JFK voted against civil rights. Harry Truman wrote his wife that he could tolerate anyone who wasn't a "Chinaman or a n----." Jimmy Carter got his start as a segregationist on his local school board. Clinton's mentor and Gore's dad voted against civil rights.
