Re: deficit as a percentage of GDP - Obama's had a higher percentage than at any point since 1800 except for the Civil War, WWII, and WWI. The reduced unemployment rate is only in the context of poor performance in terms of the job participation rate. More generally improvement moving out or a recession is the norm, not actually a sign of good performance. The recovery improved the numbers a lot eventually but it was a weak and slow recovery, hardly something to brag about.
