I think the Republicans stopped being the party of Lincoln a while back.

Maybe around 1948?

The States that were in the Confederacy in 1860 are now pretty much diehard Republican.

The States that supported the Union and Lincoln in 1860 now seem to lean more toward the Democrat party.

You may like Trump but I don't think he'd be the most advantageous candidate for the Republicans in 2016 if they want to win back the White House.
