I can understand the lack of internal SCSI Zips in retail stores, but the shortage extends to large vendors on the web. Vendors like ISN and Insight have something on the order of 50,000+++ Zip drives of all kinds except the internal SCSI. And when they do have them, it's in smaller quantity (a few hundred) and they're gone within a few days. Sure, the internal SCSI may not sell in the quantity of the other versions, but still demand has exceeded supply for a long time and continues to do so.

The only plausible explanation I could come up with was that Apple has been taking all of the internal SCSI Zips Iomega could produce. If you've been to CompUSA recently, you'll see that almost all of the PowerMac's have the Zip drives built-in. I know Apple's not selling computers the way they use to, but still they should be selling a couple million a year. How many Zip's is that?

I have seen small quantities of internal SCSI Zips on store shelves. I have also seen small quantities of internal ATAPI Zips. Both are available in New York.

The reason that the quantities of internal Zips are smaller is because there is less demand for them, and stores order fewer of them.

Allen,

I disagree...everytime I go to Computer City or CompUsa, they never, ever have internal zips. The store manager at CompUSA in Parsippany NJ told me that, and I quote, "Those internals sell like crazy.." they have 10 on backorder their. The CompUSA in Garden Cty, NY has 20 on backorder.. I bought my brother an external SCSI instead of an internal because they didn't have one in stock...The girl behind the desk also told me they were discontinuing ordering the external SCSI's in the future...They will only be ordering the Zip Pluses because they are autosensing for either SCSI or parralel..they will still carry external PP.
By the way..Zips were selling big time according to both store reps..
