If I could recommend only one book on TA, it would have to be Technical Analysis of Stock Trends by Robert D. Edwards and John McGee.

It does NOT cover the indicators, oscillators, etc. developed over the last 20 years. It does cover the "classic" TA techniques of trend lines, support and resistance, chart patterns, and the psychology behind them.

I think that you have to have a good understanding of these classic techniques before you can use indicators.
