For starters, you could check the Individual Investor prognosis in their Magic 25 issue (the January issue, I think). II has TRMB as a buy. You might disagree, but their write-up will give you food for thought.

My father owns a Trimble Scout GPS and while pricey it it by far the most technologically advanced of the GPS equipment that I have used (Garmin, Magellan, Eagle) and I feel that Trimble will be there in the long haul if the company "dances with the one that brung'em".
The biggest problem with GPS is finding and tracking the satellite system quickly. The guys who can do this better and better as we transition to "a GPS in every car" will win if they are not cost prohibitive. Trimble is the most expensive of the handheld GPS, but I see very few of them in use even though I know there performance is better. I am a Trimble fan, I will buy some stock if it goes to 18!
