The Bolsheviks also had the advantage that virtually the whole population of Russia, except for their equivalent of the 1% wanted a different government. Any government. While there is a lot of dissatisfaction with our present government, no one but possibly the Republicans would go for a theocratic dictatorship. And even then, they would prefer a Christian theocracy and not an Islamic one.

So your thesis is profoundly flawed. It is correct in essence because it opposes those who would want to impose a theocracy. Just aimed at the wrong target.
