I short NYSE stocks all the time with datek.Never had a problem yet.
Sounds like you might have to call datek.

This is grasping at straws because I know you are an accomplished computer user, but when you say it did nothing, do you mean you failed to reach the server when you finally submitted the order, i.e., the browser eventually timed out? This leads me to wonder whether there is a different server for NYSE stocks than for NASDAQ stocks? If the order is not reaching the server, then the problem may be with your ISP because it obviously worked with the order from mine. I know, I know ... it IS grasping at straws!! Why does it not do the same for the Naz? Strange!!!!

P.S. What do the Datek folks say? Different threads have had posts to the effect that Datek servers have been down intermittently, in which case switching brokers might be the only solution.
