Paul: My Christmas in Houston went as expected, steady traffic on the freeways (45,35) all the way of 230 miles. American business could not be better, Christmas sales up 2 to 4% about the same as the last few years( Stores always want 8%+ but seldom get it) Was disappointed to find that use of satellite only for internet is not yet available, still need one land line for outgoing data. Report from one consulting engg is that US still needs 100,000 programmers( ever think of working here???) A question on how many computers they own( 10 people in computer industry). Ans= about 4 to 6 each. I ask whether there is not some problem making all the software progams work together when downloading into one computer, and the answer was there are about 1000 people who work on that aspect at MSFT. Dell would also be doing that, so calling modern computers a commodity won't fly, the integration is unique. Asian races are great gamblers( their horse race tracks and purses outshine any in the US). They have been going for big returns in the Korea market, now must look elsewhere, would not be happy with USA bond returns, must go for US equities. Same for the Japanese with the low returns in their country. Our Dinner consisted of sliced turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, 2 varieties mashed sqaush, brown gravy, corn , several biscuits,cranberries,4 bottles sparkling cider.Dessert was pumpkin, molasses pecan, and apple pies plus 4 boxes assorted chocolates (Sees, etc)(no booze, no beer, no smoked eels). An amazing performance by the 8 kids (age 2 to 9), no fights, kicking, or screaming. Perhaps waiting for Sinter Claus. On the 26 th we toured the new space center display at the Johnson Sapce Center south of Houston, a worthy place to visit. About 50 % are visiting foreign people, Indians with turbans, Asians, Mexicans, lots of Russians.(( Buy airline stocks??????) Sig
