Well, I've seen across investors that everyone makes mistakes on dd. I don't dig as deep as some of the big fundamental hedge funds would but I don't think more is always better - there is a point where you are just adding each new datapoint to your conviction this is the buy of a lifetime. Doing full dd on a stock for me takes about 10 hours done piecemeal over a period of a few weeks at the end of which I'd expect to have a full position if everything looked good. After that my research is more reactionary :) The only public data I'm not using right now are IB research reports because I don't want to pay for them, and I question the value anyhow. The one thing I'm not doing and feel guilty about is actually meeting with management - Fisher says in his book that is the lynchpin of his investment decision and I have just not been doing that the way I should be. Maybe that should be my new years res!
