It was easier to find candidates for your 3x rule in 2010-2011.

Ah 2009...that was a time. Peeled off a few Royal Cruise last week at $100+. In Feb '09 at $6.53.
I like that % gain! ...Unfortunately though, not enough shares ever bought to have made much of a difference to my portfolio.

Am down about 3-4% for 2015. Stock performance actually worse than that, being that I held more than 20% cash throughout the year.

A great point and one I neglected - when? I have yet to find any value stocks where the answer would be "tomorrow." 3 years would be a reasonable figure. I should also clarify that I don't mean to actually SELL at 3x (although maybe I should). 20-50% is about the max I take these days. It's more a way of trying to force myself not to buy businesses with poor business/ macro prospects that are trading at a correspondingly bargain price.

And yes, the mature bull market consideration is one reason I choose not to be a pig.
