For sure it started changing under Reagan. This will please EJ to no end that I agree with him..lol How much is due to his policies is open to debate. A host of factors converged IMHO. Can tell you the working class hurting big time regardless of this new Gilded Age with no access to credit to buy stuff easily like the top 50% so they feel screwed in every way these days have to see how the other half live much more than working class did 40-50 years ago
