Maybe because you're a convicted felon and you don't want anyone knowing you bought it.

They aren't yet dispensed from vending machines. So if you buy them, the seller knows about it. Unless you announce you are a convicted felon, no one knows about that. There are lots of ways to get a weapon without a background check without going to the black market.

Maybe because the gun show is next week and you need it today. A thousand reasons.

Each of which describes a very small potential market. Usually with options. If a black market exists for guns it is likely infiltrated with police and/or FBI because it is pretty small. The market of private sellers is a lot larger. And easier to deal with. And there is no risk. I suppose there are those who have such an ingrained criminality that they cannot conceive of ever doing things through legitimate channels.
