Indeed the market seems to be confused. If on the one hand they are crushing Wintel stocks because high end PC's are slowing in growth and the net is a threat to Windows than why would ORCL which is gearing up for the converse of why the Wintel stocks are being beaten down be put in the tank as well? It would seem that what is bad news for the margins of INTC and the rev. growth at MSFT would be good news for ORCL. It would also seem that for the larger corps ORCL8 is the one stop solution for y2k. The stock has indeed been unduly punished for this past qtr. and the ASian crisis.

danderso,

I agree that there is way to much focus being placed on the NC as a hardware device that will win or lose. It is not a question of hardware but one of architecture. CORBA/JAVA/HMTL/IP are all key components of an evolving architecture that places a significant amount of emphasis on the server. Clients will continue to get thinner and protocols like ICA from Citrix ensure that the required transition technologies exist that will drag the Windows world into this space as well. Oracle is focussed on the new architecture and the payoff could be LARGE! It takes balls to see the future and invest in it. It takes patience as well. The best way to predict the future is to help invent it! Time will tell.
