Mohan, Steve, Stephen and thread -- Santa left switches and lumps of coal for all this year but looking forward to the new year and some really good earnings for cpq. Intel will make their quarter because if nothing else they know how to conserve revenue. If this is a Bear market for techs, it's been going on for several months and historically a bear lasts about 8 months (not counting the seventies, whoops). In any case, hope everyone has a merry christmas or whatever and all friends and family are happy and well -- dulane

Mohan,

First and foremsot, I like to wish you a very merry Holiday season and a New Year full of health and prosperity.

In regard to Asia, to be quite frank, the situtation is so complex that we should take it all "cum grano salis!!"

Sometimes it seems to me that the investors, during 1997, were desperately looking for any insignificant excuse to lock on to their gains of the past few years and disinvest. Asia Flu provided them with that excuse! I say to myself what AT$T, Dell, or US Utility Companies have to do with Asia?? How many Philipino's, Indonisians, or South Korean farmers would buy do buy CPQ or Dell after all??

Havign travelled in these countries extensively, with not inttention to be offensive to anyone, I have to admit that these countries are
thrid world countires as soon as you live the down-town behind you. In case of Indonesia, you travel 100 years back by leaving 50 miles out of the capital, same goes for Thailand and Phililipine. Why then such marginal markets should effect the US stock market to such extent! I wounder! However, as I said in my last post, we should wait until May to see the extent of the damage.

In any case, I hope your right and I am wrong. I love to see the CPQ began to recover to 70 before the split.

Kind regards,

Yaacov
