There were years of propping up their currency and nearly constant cries from the west about the situation.

I think you have that backwards.

There were years of complaints from the West that the Chinese were keeping their currency value too low, thus unfairly helping them with their manufacturing cost advantage. Their efforts to push it lower now is probably an effort to kickstart their economy by again lowering their manufacturing costs.

Ox. The Chinese economy is a unique state run system with an interlaced nascent capitalist structure that has been rolled out with uneven results over the past several years.

there are so many state owned companies....with huge debt that the govt has been trying to privatize. No one, not even the Chinese officials themselves fully understand the state planned statist / capitalist system they have created....I know that I don't..

I do know they have a massive overbuilt, a really staggering amount of debt and excess capacity in many areas.... we do know that the country is way to big to ignore and it is a key global player.

The Government and PBOC will come up with a plan this week end .....let's see how well that stabilizes the market and calms the global markets.
