A1Le, Sorry for mis-reading your post re: SGI chance to be GFX monopoly.

Anyway my point is that application developers prefer OpenGL which though not a monopoly has the same level of acceptance that a monopoly would have created.

Also how can we be sure that a PC GL accelerator 8 years ago would have found acceptance without enough 3D apps on DOS, on a 386 with ISA bus and 40MB RAM?
It takes a tremendous amount of system resources to do 3D effectively.
The desktop PC hardware OS and apps of today are far superior to what existed 8 years ago.

Granted, SGI should have seen to move to NT a year ago and planned accordingly but I think it is still not too late.

In my opinion SGI stock (1.2xBook) offers great risk/reward to long term investors.
Short term and momentum buyers will have to wait for the sellers to be exhausted.
I feel we are close to such a point and have taken the plunge.

Good Luck trying to time the bottom.
