I may cut the cord for the land line... after I get Comcast. DSL is too slow here for HD streaming so I can't get old shows "on demand" in HD over the slow line...

DRV... With Dish, I can skip forward 30 seconds with each click and back 10 with the other button, nearly instantly. I don't recall it worked nearly as well when I had DirectTV long ago.... I believe both compress the signals but not as much as Comcast so you get better quality which really shows on sports and dance competition shows where it is nice to watch the cute gals in HD. Dish also has commercial skip for Network TV but some shows you have to wait a full week for it to work but others the wait is only a day.... If I'm paying for a TV channel, I don't want to pay twice and watch the commercials. Saves a TON of time to have a quality 30sec skip forward and 10 sec backwards function. There is really no excuse for X1 to not have it other than they want you to watch their commercials.

... an external battery that can charge my phone at least 2x if power stays out for too long.
Get a gadget from Amazon that lets you charge your phone in your car. It's saved my bacon more than once and it's always available as long as your car will start.
