Apple's cash position has traditionally been pretty good. It has about 1.4 billion in cash at last report (about $11 per share) Apple's book value has dropped a bit from $9.60 to $8.30 or so.

I think these numbers are correct. Anyone got more recent numbers or corrections please post.

Eric

Pat Yahoo's (Reuters 12/24) article re-reports good & bad news

It relieves urgencies for both AAPL's CEO placement and a immediate return to profitability .

Reuters accepts AAPL may break even in 1Q , then quoting analysts , it suggests sales are weak and a inventory problem exists .

Now Comp. Intelligence reports Mac's loss to Gateway :

infoseek.com

Amelio was nailed at MacWorld last year for this and the Reuters article warns competition will be on-site at MacWorld.

Hopefully AAPL can counter this or it may become Jobs' annual meeting issue .

Jim K.
