The U-Scan check outs at the grocery stores use XP as well. They are always going down, the stores I shop at have 6 machines and its common for 1-2 being down when I go to the check out and wait in line. I asked one of the people that operate the monitoring station for the machines and they said its Windows XP. Not sure if the OS is the problem or the software. My guess its the software and not Windows XP causing the problems.

I still use XP as my main machine, 10.5 years old, and I can't remember the last time it crashed. Its a very stable OS. I have lots of programs running on the system when doing admin work on SI, (FF with lots of tabs open, Chrome for Twitter, Photoshop for Twitter pics, SeaMonkey, iTunes, Thunderbird) the only thing that will make the browser unstable is poorly designed websites, I know right a way that a web site is causing problems as FF starts to grind to a halt, slows down and sometimes locks right up. I have given up looking for celebrities and other popular topics as the sites are way too unstable for my machine. Don't know if its FF or the website. Most likely the website.
