Yes, indeed ... we think alike there !

"I have had so many companies that take one time adjustments to earnings ..."

And quite often those adjustments, plus Tax "Credits", take place below 'Pretax Income'. One of the reasons, I believe, why Buffett takes Pretax Income into account to calculate his "Equity Bond" value.
