...because the govt COOP Health Republic Insurance went bankrupt, I had to go to a for profit company (Fidelis) this year. If I had chosen a similar PLATINUM plan, I would have paid over 50% more (over $300/month) in premiums. I instead chose a SILVER plan and pay about $100 a month with a $1500 deductible. I'm reporting about 25K in income (retired) and receive about $300 in subsidies. I don't anticipate any significant heath care needs this year....but you never know. I still don't see how anyone really living on $25K in NY can afford to buy low deductible plans or actually use high deductible ones.
