That's a fundamental misunderstanding of how insurance works. Many people live their lives without ever receiving a net subsidy. Most, in fact. I've been continuously insured for almost 100% of my life. In no year have I ever been subsidized a nickel, and never has my insurance company paid for procedures in a year that amounted to as much as my premium. Many, many people are in the same situation.

The idea is that risk is shared with other people. NOT that they subsidize one another. There is a difference.
