Jay, your article picks up on an important theme that we must not forget in the next up cycle:

The decline in the yen makes "the products of Japanese semiconductor equipment makers like Advantest competitive."

Many industry analysists tend to assume that leadership among publicly listed U.S. companies is equivalent to industry leadership. However, the Japanese equipment industry is about as strong as the U.S.'s equipment industry. In recent years, I think that the strong yen has been one factor that allowed U.S. companies to sell big time in Japan and the rest of Asia.

The yen is now at 130 yen = $1, down from a top of about 80 yen. This makes a BIG DIFFERENCE in competetiveness. We need to watch out for competition from Japan, and pick companies that will grow regardless of the competition that Japan offers.

I would like to discuss this in the future as we look at what companies to buy when the next up cycle starts.

Good luck....

THC
