The links you posted were once again up to your typical brilliant standards. So nice to know that you are out there keeping up the good work.

"Patched" P-II "microcode" slows down benchmarks:

aopen.com.tw

Business Winstone97 goes down 0.7 point,
CPUmark32 goes down from 728 to 696,
CPUmark16 goes down from 538 to 526,....

As I was thinking before, the "patch" seems to disable some
flawed instructions and makes a software workaround slowing down the code execution. Nice job and nice hype on Intel side...
And remember, the Pentium-II FLAG "errata" cannot be corrected by this kludge.

However, we should not under-estimate the power of Intel-$$$ and their deceptive and fraudulent marketing tactics. In the past they were able to sell 8086 as fully comparible with 8080 while it was not. And were able to p*ss off the clearly superior Motorola's 86000 with this brain-damaged 8086/88.

I hope this time, with Penrium-I/II/?? perfprmance lag, it will be not so easy.

Regards,

Ali
