CSS: Iridium is MOT. IMO not too many land-based people close to large metro areas (i.e., most business men)need global coverage. You can already arrange for this through land-based cellular networks (I read this somewhere on an airline magazine). This toy would be very attractive to people sailing far destinations (like when you are in the middle of the Pacific or in the caribbean but the revenue potential is not that great for this crowd. Airlines are potential customers: can call your mom in your way to Hawai once you get 200 miles away from the CA coast). As will all technologies prices will come down eventually but they also have to worry about Globstar QCOM as a competitor. Bottom line I am not sure the financial analysis done to decide on this projects was very sound but I am certainly glad someone had the guts to get into the business. IMO CDRD is a more attractive [i.e., less risky] short but this is probably a result of my not having done any homework on the worldwide satellite phone service Co's.
