Nothing that complicated and nothing to do with Cowpie's personal holdings. More like the following: The stock is down so let's buy some shares since we've got some sweet deals lined up for next quarter. Oops, the stock is still going down, I guess the fund managers are really ticked. OK, let's announce the bad news and let's write off everything that isn't nailed down and take a charge on everything that is. Furthermore, let's confirm that we are completely out of touch by announcing that we have no plan to reign in spending with any staff reductions. We know they were buying back shares so why not dump all of the bad news on the floor and kick dirt on it? It's completely up to them to decide when and what to announce in terms of restructuring, licensing deals or whatever. So I agree that they are pulling a fast one here as somebody earlier suggested. It makes sense, dump on 1997 and move into 1998 with a cleaner slate.
