While it is technically true that people theorized it many years ago the big money is a fairly recent development.

So who was funding it before? I mean, if your claims it is false science, who was funding and promoting it before? The Illuminati? The Gnomes of Zurich?

Care to try to explain WHAT? If I had a lot of money I would be spending it to get the facts out on the global warming fiasco, too.

Of course. And the fact that fixing the problem would impact their bottom line has nothing to do with it. Just like the tobacco companies spending all that money challenging the link between smoking tobacco and lung cancer were doing it out of purely altruistic reasons. The fact that the deniers are using the very same techniques and even the same people to challenge climate change is a just a wild coincidence...

Are you a smoker, Dave? Were you? Were you are believer of the anti-cancer link propaganda? Maybe even benefited from the money spent on fighting the science linking smoking tobacco to cancer?
