If you hate/love "pump and dump" check out WAVC.
there is a threat (entertaining) on SI.
I am new to investing and this thread but this (WAVC) seems like a great short. If any one would like to comment I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thinking of shorting (but cannot seem to make up my mind)
Cheers!

Tappis:RE PCTY. t It is OK you don't remember where you first saw PCTY. Even if you picked it ramdomly, I still consider my preliminary findings interesting enough to continue researching it. My curiosity about the source is just related to trying to assess whether it is an SI lead or whether there may be some smart guy out there promoting the short for whatever reason.

Short interest through mid-December from WSJ:

Company 12/24/97 11/25/97 % Chg Avg Dly
Volume
PARTY CITY CP 232,822 249,026 -6.5 70,795

So currently short is about 3.3 days. If shares to short are found [assuming we conclude it is a good short which we have not yet] I would not worry so much about the heavy institutional holding. Have seen much worst and still shorted. Interesting to notice is the drop in short interest due probably to the coming split and the seasonality of the business [Q4 is always strong].

Your Fundamental observations seem fine. I don't do technical analysis so on those I am not capable of making any comments.

PS: again, thanks for the tip. PCTY reminds me of PAperama, a store in Medford/Somerville MA. Used to buy party stuff and Xmas stuff there but it is a bit of a drive so I prefer to use Bradleys or similar even if the selection is not as good. Will pay them a store check visit when back in Boston.
