John, 1. Response to competive price cuts are the no 1 issue inhibiting AMD return to profitability. Untill prices firm there would appear to be no rush to buy. Or untill new product releases have the potential to rase the ASP are announced it would be more prudent to allocate resources eles where short term into Bonds. Tech commomstocks pay no dividend or interest so you only win with price improvment... and that only comes on income potential from the elease of new products. more in next post.

John continued AMD stock is held down by two factors competive pricing response to competion and inability to ramp (yield problem) Lehman would have us beleive that Yield is solved. That could mean that AMD K6-@266 .25u cmos product release in commercial quantity is close at hand. that would be good new for the company as it would be further proof of the new .25u process technology. And undoubtly a higher APS. both of which are prerequisits for a price advance. More

John 2. Asia, AMD's exposure to Asia could be mitagated by two factors unique to AMD as Opposed to Intel. AMD is a smaller company. AMD does a larger % of it's Asian business in China which to now is unaffected. AMD's Flash plant is in Japan and recent weakness in the yen could give AMD some competive advantages over non japaneese based competitors. In the past managment has done a good job of fincialy hedging asian currency risks, but we will have to see if they were suprised and if the surprises hurt. In the long run Clinton will come to the aid of the koreans and but not untill his fincial buddies buy up al the korean debt like they did with Brady bonds in Mexico. He tell us he is doing it because Korean needs our help to maintain democracy. The Korea is a better Investment than Mexico and Mexico paid us back so the president for helping has already been set. After all we don't have any troops in Mexico, like we do guarding the 38th paralle. So the loan will be in our National interest after all a strong South Korea is a further deterant to a North Korean invasion threat. I cna just hear it now. Anyway tech will rally accross the board and give investors a reason for the monentum Lehman was talking aobut in the post. MOre

John Weaker projections, that hurts Intel AMD is the chip of chioce for the sub $1,000.00 market and the sub $1,000.00 is the bigest Pc growth market segment for 98. I cna tell you the analist have this part dead wrong about AMD. but dead right for Intel. go visit any computer retailer and see for yourself. The wall street guys never leave there desks, and they won't get the picture untill the sales results are in for the first QRT and there is a another big suprise in the slowest qtr of the year for box sales. Lehman already told you CPU prices will fall even further due to earlier than expected Intel price cuts. That and the wiring of all schools and library's will be 98 driving forces. What do you believe? more

John 97 is a write off year for AMd and a tax fund at best. you have to look forward. Look backward only to look forward. looking backward is a waste of energy.
