I agree , and further to that ,I think the reason Trump is so popular is because the right wing sees him as someone who can beat up the liberals. That is why they forgive him all of his outrageous and venal transgressions. They are supporting him to fight us. Pretty much as simple as that. That is about as sophisticated as most of their thought goes e.g. Sarah Palin.

The right wing nutjobs want a strongman demagogue- a sort of Western Putin- who can be a real asshole, and a whackjob, but he'll be "their" asshole whackjob. Sadly, what they don't get, is that a strongman demagogue asshole whackjob, at the end of the day, isn't representing anyone but himself- and he'll use brutality, racism, scapegoating, religion and anything else to further his agenda. I think we've seen Trump use everything except brutality- although I would argue that his rhetoric has caused brutality, and I'm sure he'd use it, if he had the chance and he thought he could get away with it. If elected, he would be a very dangerous man. He would be everything the idiots on the right thought Obama would be, but wasn't. Trump I think might be able to destroy our country. I don't think most of the other candidates would have a shot at that- it's a hard thing to do. But Trump? Yeah, maybe.
