Besides the string theories also some have theorized about black holes and quasars as possible being some kind of breathing holes between different universes with the holes being the sinks and the quasars the sources so to say. Now, pretty much like the string s this of course all being but pure speculation.

That said, the idea, that everything must indeed have a beginning (and an end) is pretty much human speculation, because we just cannot fathom the idea, that it ain't necessarily so. As said, we can only get closer and closer to what we believe must be a beginning, but neither we, nor our math takes us all the way to - the point of the beginning called the bang.

Another point: I am quite convinced, that on Mars we will find traces of former life if not even current life. Furthermore I believe, that this, traces of or real life, will be very similar if not even equal to stuff we know from Earth. (Unfortunately, my kids, but not I will know by then...). Now, that would of course turn everything upside down, wouldn't it?

Fossiles found on Earth indeed are traces of and left-overs from former life - somewhere, if not on Earth.
