Bush the first provides a perfect example of what even a moderate Rep can do. Souter was pretty good, but he did not stick around. But Thomas is absolutely horrible, and since he was relatively young when appointed, he will have many years to do tremendous damage. Any Rep, even Trump, will owe a debt to the far right and will very likely appoint one or more troglodytes. The country cannot afford the damage which will be done by any Rep SC appointee.
