Assuming the reports are correct, he chose suicide by cop. Which is sort of sad. I guess he was hoping that his sacrifice will spark a rebellion. I suspect he is wrong on this, I just don't see a lot of desire to risk life over this. Sure, as long as they can get the government to cough up land for free, especially if maintenance is on the government dime, but risk being shot and/or imprisoned? That is a step too far...
