nortell and orctf asian exposure .... Greetings Darrell, Don't think the Nortel electric wire infrastructure stuff is far enough along to pose much of a threat to the xdsl (potential) market... On the other hand, Nortel does bear watching... Think they mean to be xdsl players... Believe they have a working relationship with Westell.. and this fall they secured an equity position in NetSpeed to gain access to NetSpeed's xdsl technologies.. Also Nortel and Rockwell have announced cooperation on the CDSL initiative (adsl lite)... which seems kind of close to the orctf/rok hdsl2 upcoming (98?) product. Orctf has denied any involvement with Rockwell and Nortel on CDSL, but there is a ways to go yet ... lots of angles.. Posted a while ago that orctf asian exposure seemed pretty much limited to fujitsu and china and neither were particularly contributing to revenues at the moment... Should add, that hdsl revenues may be impacted .. don't particularly think impact will be serious, but.... it all adds up.. Sometimes the obvious gets overlooked... Was recently checking international orctf customers for lucent connections... and noticed/remembered hdsl asia stuff... According to the 96 annual report, in 1996, Far East and Australia revenues were $894,000...about 6% of total revenues... this was by and large hdsl, including: mostly: Taiwan and Thailand who were both listed among the eleven principal end-users of the Company's HDSL products. p.10 Annual Report 1996 on Form 20 F Product was also sold in S. Korea, China , Hong Kong, Phillipines, Singapore and Australia (from geographical map on p12 of 96 annual report) Would think that one or more of these countries might explain last quarters earnings "shortfall", explained at the time as postponement of hdsl orders (reportedly to this qtr).. s
