From personal observation lighting products for residential applications have gone from rare to excellent selection and price declines are making these products more than attractive. As an example in my 1860 school house renovation project, I had a 4 tube fluorescent fixture quit working on 2 of the 4 bulbs. It was old and yellowed so I opted for a 24" x 24" trouffer led replacement fixture($98.00). On the box where life expectancies was given, this fixture over its extended life would save me $248.00 in electricity. I bought it and installed it (which is proof it is easy to install). The beautiful bright white light emitted made the dull yellow light from the old fixture look horrible. recent industry statistics suggest that growth in led is finding new applications as its cagr remains proof that this is huge growth industry. The LED grow light market is expected to rise to more than $1.9 Billion by 2020, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 26.93% between 2015 and 2020. The agriculture market is on the transition path from using traditional lighting technology to new lighting technology such as Light-Emitting Diode (LED) grow light. The traditional lighting, such as incandescent lamps, halogens, and fluorescent lighting, is witnessing decline due to consumers' awareness of LED grow light technology. This trend is being seen more in Europe and the North America, whereas the APAC region is showing the highest growth in the use of LED grow light in urban farming. Also, the Rest of the World (RoW) region, especially in Middle East, commercial greenhouse trend has increased, which is ultimately driving the LED grow light business in the country. The traditional lighting can be used for the growth of a plant, but the high energy wasted with this lighting technology has restraints that force users to switch to LED grow light. The most efficient processes for led production remains in its infancy and there are major opportunities for equipment makers as well. Auto motive LED's are really beginning to gain in application. From BMW's initial utilization of LEDS as what was once described by a BMW marketing exec as "Jewelry for auto's" to that found in the headlights and taillights of Silverado trucks and has now become the norm for taillights and headlights of new models as well as dash clusters. Listening to Cypress semiconductors webcast for it 4th quarter TJ Rogers mentioned their success in selling dash clusters implementing led's. The brave new world of led rolls on relentlessly. Let's find out how to make money in this high growth sector! Bob
