I think you"re depressed. Medication can help.

I think a little therapy would go a long way with Gene. Perhaps 10 hours of electroshock followed by 12 hours of solitary confinement until he learns some social graces and behavior. We'll be paying for it anyway, just like we pay for his food and rent.
