What Microsoft (and Apple, etc) are trying to do is make using a computer like driving a car-- all the complexity is hidden from you. That's a noble endeavor, but, for sure, they've not achieved it. The problem is that while the vast majority of us are visual, not many are adept at logic flow. It's a similar phenomenon to people being easily able to memorize a massive number of song lyrics but not even retain a handful of simple famous quotations or even jokes. It's hard for programmers, who excel at logic flow, to develop for people devoid of it. I think now that computers are powerful enough to handle 3D real-time processing, we'll see a revolutionary new OS in the next few years that solves this usability problem, finally.
