Sorry, TimF, but we are at full employment by according to most economists definition, and President Obama got us here. He also presided over a turnaround in the economy from a disaster - a complete meltdown under Bush.

Arguing over longer term trends in an tangentially related index is not meaningful, especially so when you arbitrarily set the goalposts in your own evaluation at the peak of that index.

Automation will allow many more people to not have to work. Access to affordable insurance on open exchanges allows many to retire who otherwise could not have. A lower labor force participation rate under such circumstances would reflect an improved standard of life.

Setting the goal posts at a local peak seems quite similar to what climate science deniers do.

I don't think anyone can define an ideal labor force participation rate, and a much lower rate than today, as was in the last century, is by no means a bad thing.

unemployment is measured the same way as always....you want to change it for the black guy right??? lol!!!

If you really know people who gave up looking for work than you have a very very poor circle of friends.....during obamas 8 years the boomers reached peak retirement years......

OBAMA fixed this mess!!!! DEAL WITH IT!!!! HEHE!!
