Stop it Paul, you crack me up MAN. A Ph.D with a sense of humor, this I like. I told my wife many times there is nothing wrong with a Ph.D having a sense of humor, but she wouldn't listen. She has a Ph.D but lacks in humor. I will show your post to her to prove my point and may be she will loosen up a bit.Thanks.

Paul: Thanks for the thorough reply. As usuall tech stocks are in their roller coaster ride. I have no idea how bad the Asian crisis will get, how much it will affect the inexorable abvance of technology, or how long the paranoia will last. One thing I have learned though is that whenever I get the feeling a stock has gone too high too fast selling has usually been the smart thing to do. It is difficult to decide when to get back in. For example, I sold COMS last at 55 and started going long again on its way down at 47, 43, 40, 38, until finally decided to stop buying at 36! With INTC I have made the quite arbitrary decision to start buying at around 65 (if I ever see it). Any thoughts on MSFT (last time I sold I did at 114, ORCL and at the other end the "immune stocks" AOL and YHOO.

Regards

Pancho

PS: some of the year 2000 stocks seem to be way overpriced and some have gone up even further on the perception that these are Asian proof and end of year awareness. May represent a good short opportunity once they run their course in early 98. In this group I am currently short DDIM, ZITL, ALYD, ACLY and SEEC. Well into the black in all of them except ACLY.

Paul Engel and all: Great post

It is a great post indeed. I always enjoy your humor. I am afraid I have to agree with your post. No matter what happens to INTC earnings flat, below or above expectations, Intel bashing by the analysts would continue for the next 2 to 3 quarters and the stock could be pulled down some more. As long-term investors we have to bear with the pain in seeing our paper profits dwindling down. The stock price of $70.00 is still not bad for those of us who had purchased Intel before the split. For those of us who bought the stock after the split in the up market may see some paper losses. The losses may perhaps come handy for year-end tax selling purpose and one should find a convenient entry point to buy back the stock after 31 days to avoid wash-sale. The stock might go up in the month of January with the stupendous growth of money flows of IRAs etc. and consequent investments by Mutual Funds. The stock may go down in February 98. IMHO. I may be totally wrong.

Wish you all happy holidays and a safe prosperous 1998.
