Hey Wharfie, here's something I posted to a liberal friend of mine. He is convinced that half of the world's population will die unless we do something about "climate change."

*******
I don't see how we reduce our carbon footprint significantly without some drastic changes in our lifestyle. For example, Gov. Jerry Brown here set a target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 (which is a follow-on to the Governator's target of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050).

That's a short 14 years from now! Yet there's no way that's happening without everyone here living like Tokyo and taking mass transit. (You can look up the per-capita CO2 emissions and compare between U.S. and Japan.)

How do I know? Because 14 years ago California was full of highways with some abysmal mass transit options. Same as today, which means it'll likely be the same 14 years from now. (Heck, we won't even have our high-speed rail line completed by then.) And this state has always prided itself on its environmentalism.

That tells me a lot about how California liberals love to talk the talk but hate to walk the walk. They'll buy hybrids and electric vehicles, they'll recycle and conserve, and some might even buy solar panels, but all of that amounts to small changes in CO2 emissions.

If this really is a planetary emergency, then we really have to make some drastic changes, but I don't see it, and quite frankly, I don't really care to see it. Instead, we're just going to adapt, like building more water infrastructure to guard against future droughts.

And of course, we're going to keep telling the world that we're taking "climate change" seriously. While we all drive on the 101. Without carpooling.

You see the disconnect here? You see why I don't take this whole "climate change" hysteria seriously? The "climate change deniers" are right. The issue is being used as nothing more than a power-grab by politicians. 14 years from now, when we fail to meet Gov. Brown's targets for CO2 reduction, we're going to push out the goalposts and say, "This time, we're serious!" Just like today vs. 25 years ago.
