THC: I agree with you that 3 shifts should be taken into account for full utilization of this equipment.

By the way, we usually do not discuss broad economical trends on this thread, but on the Mohan thread I posted the following post:

Message 3044759

We are a little perplexed and wonder if some of the terme used in Japan are different then what we use here, in term of "marking to Book, etc., I was also wandering if something got lost in the translation. Can you explain what was the change in accounting for financial institutions (proposed or implemented).

TIA

Zeev

IF your questioning whether fabs run 24 hours a day they do.Labor is the cheapest part of running the fabs and you need to run the equipment full time to make some money.

Re the Korean situation-- what if the Korean fabs slow down their purchases of semi equip--wont companies with deep pockets see this as an opportunity to gain marketshare and move to gear up production---the 2 fastest ways are in order -- a move to 300mm wafers and to .25microns. in both moves Cymer is a winner.
a move to 300mm wafers doubles the chip output while only costing approx 7 % more in terms of equip costs ( according to Infrastructure}
Of note the equipment that is needed most {twice as much} to match the output are steppers and hopefully Cymer lasers at .25 or .18
While its impossible not to focus on the daily downdraft in price-- somewhere somones going to order some steppers with Cymer's laser in them. Whether it takes 3,6 , 12 or 18 months for the smoke to clear I dont know. I hope we can hold price wise from here and not visit the whisper numbers posted on this board.
