Sorry, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc WERE all atheists and believed as you apparently do when it comes to Christianity.

atheists have to be good in this life because there's no after-life in which to get forgiven. We do good in the here and now.

That's funny. But not true. Atheists aren't known as saints even when they aren't mass killers.

Onehunga High School. It was compulsory to go to school. That school was what the government full of religious cranks provided.

It was run by totalitarian thugs. Obey or else. Caning. Assembly included compulsory praying, compulsory hymn singing, with authoritarian thugs watching out for any defiance.

I have no idea where that school is or if your description is at all accurate. Somehow I've never heard of a public school being at all like that. I'm afraid I'm skeptical.

Even now, parliament begins with a prayer. In court one had to swear on a Bible to "tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me Dog" which is richly amusing as that's a lie itself just to placate dumb authoritarian religious cranks.

Griping about stuff like that marks you as a village atheist crank.

<Atheists like you want to circumscribe the lives of people like me. That's a fact. > Yes, we will shoot you if you try to force us to obey you. That does circumscribe your life. You want to rule the world. Too bad for you. I wish to circumscribe your lust for power. Atheists like me are libertarians who like freedom for you to do as you like. In what way do you think I wish to circumscribe your life? You can bay to the Moon all you like, chant incantations and climb to the top of mountains with no compulsory safety gear if you wish to do so. What is it you want to do that you think people like me will stop you doing?

I have no doubt if you had power, you'd be as totalitarian as Stalin, would have churches shut down, have children taken from believing parents and taught to be atheists. Your fanaticism tells me that.

"atheists have to be good in this life because there's no after-life in which to get forgiven. We do good in the here and now."

On the contrary, Atheism cuts the feat out from under all notions of ultimate good or evil and yet here you are claiming moral superiority to everyone else. As I said before, I would love to see you define and defend your claimed atheist obligation to do good. We won't hold our breath waiting, because it's clear you have unthinkingly stolen the very idea of good from the same religious system that you claim to despise.
