> why would now be a good time to pick up on VICL.

1) Tax selling will end soon
2) The H&Q conference is next month ( I don't think that Vical will present, however should boitechs rally next month Vical will benefit).
3) Nothing but good news has come out of Vical.

Reasons not to buy:

1) It could easily drift down to $10 again.
2) Biotechs (and Vical) tend to drift down during the summer months.
3) Biotechs are very risky, and if bad news ever does come out of Vical it could easily be cut in half

So, IMO, Vical is a good long term hold, but be prepared for volitility (which also makes VICL a good trading stock -- buy at $11, sell at $15)

Scott,

It's been awhile, but I'm back online. In response to your request for opinions as to why buy Vical now...... 1) I consider them a long term (at least 10 years) play in the biotech field and one never know when & why the stock will move, so some sort of position is required (ie.. misery likes company); 2) I have owned them for 35 months & have seen mostly good news during that time, that has not been reflected in the stock price (ie... undervalued); 3) Merck finished their Phase I Influenza clinical in April/1996, has announced nothing, but Vical has sold three licenses for Naked DNA use since these clinicals (ie... the product works to some extent); 4) Vical has a substantial amount of cash (>$40m), a relatively small quantity of shares (around 15m) and a slow burn rate (ie... potential for a move); 6) State of Wisconsin Investment Board owns around 1.43m shares or just over 9% (ie...???); 7) You could check through my posts, if you want for I still believe in what I said in them....

I haven't called IR (Alan Engbring) for awhile, (been a little busy)... I think I will soon & will report back any amazing news...

ttyl
