No against big government in general, not specifically to helping the poor. If done right (a big if of course) it has more justification, and can cause less harm, then many other forms of government actions.

I've already established from direct quotes of numerous politicians that they could care less who voted them into power.

Quoting someone saying it, even politicians about themselves, or politicians about politicians in general, doesn't establish such a categorical statement. More importantly as a categorical statement its false. In fact the main reason why politicians care about wealthy donors is that their money can help get votes (not that it always works so well, witness Jeb Bush, to give just one example).
